Altar Servers  

Altar Servers play a special role in assisting the priest during the celebration of the Mass, fostering a spirit of reverence and prayer. Children who have received their First Holy Communion are invited to serve in this important ministry. While no training sessions are scheduled at this time, training sessions will be offered in the fall. For more information or to express interest, please contact altarservers@stamiami.org.  

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) 

An Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EMHC) is a member of the parish appointed by the Archbishop, upon the recommendation of the pastor, to assist in the reverent distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during Holy Mass. 

This ministry is a beautiful opportunity to serve the Church and deepen one’s devotion to the Eucharist. Those interested in becoming an EMHC are asked to contact Father Alejandro or Father Sebastian for more information and discernment. At this time, there are no trainings scheduled at St. Thomas the Apostle. 

 

In accordance with the guidelines of the Archdiocese of Miami and our parish, those serving in this ministry should: 

• Be fully initiated Catholics who have received the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Communion, and Confirmation 

• If married, be in a marriage recognized by the Catholic Church 

• Strive to live a life rooted in prayer and devotion to the Eucharist, including regular time in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament 

• Complete the required training for the ministry 

• Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the Mass at which they are scheduled to serve 

• Adhere to the parish dress code for liturgical ministers 

• EMHCs are typically scheduled to serve once a month at the Sunday Mass of their preference
